Jason was born and raised in Columbus County, North Carolina.  He is a 1997 graduate of Whiteville High School.  He attended Southeastern Community College (SCC) for Basic Law Enforcement Training and received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from SCC.  Jason has experience in EMS, Police and Fire.  He has always been passionate about helping others in his community.  Immediately after high school, Jason became an EMT and a volunteer firefighter.  Jason began his law enforcement career with Clarkton Police Department in 2001.  He later went on to work for various agencies as a police officer and a firefighter.  In 2010, he joined Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and later joined the Command Staff as Captain of the Investigation’s Division.  Over the course of being at the Sheriff’s Office he was a member of the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Team, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, the Honor Guard, and the Dive Team.  Jason established the Child Passenger Safety Program, served as Head Evidence Custodian, and handled Internal Affair Investigations, just to name a few of his duties and accomplishments while there.  Jason holds too many certifications to name and is very proud to hold the Advanced Professional Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriff Training and Standards Division. Jason is a member of the NC Secretary of State’s Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force Team and currently an auxiliary officer with Whiteville Police Department.

In addition, you may have seen Jason on the television series on Investigation Discovery called "The Night That Didn't End" during an episode entitled “Murder in the Wetlands" about a homicide case he investigated in 2015.   In addition, Jason was recognized as one of the News Reporter’s 15 under 40 which recognizes young leaders for their contributions to make Columbus County a better place to live and work.
